DEBT VOLUNTEERS

South West London Law Centres (SWLLC), one of the largest and most progressive Law Centres in the country, is seeking Volunteer Debt Advisers for a new debt advice service. The service will provide one-off, initial advice on debt and money issues to people who cannot afford to pay for advice services.

                               

Role:

Volunteer Debt Adviser

Location:

SWLLC Croydon branch

5th Floor, Davis House, Robert Street, Croydon, CR0 1QQ

Commitment:

1 day a week for at least 3 months

Duration

Ongoing

Tasks:

- Assist debt advisors with initial enquires to the debt team

- Assist debt advisors with follow up debt advice, drafting of letters

- Assist the Thames Project Caseworker with applications to Thames Water and other utility services

- Assist in data compilation, general admin duties and any other tasks as designated by the debt team leader

- Assist Debt clients applying for discounts, grants, switching to better deals, benefit applications, benefit appeals and liaise with external organisations on behalf of the clients.

Requirements

- Reliability

- Able to engage well with people from a diverse range of cultures and background

- Good problem solving skills

- Good numeracy and literacy skills

- Understanding of Law is desirable, not essential, full training will be given

- You must be available to volunteer regularly at our Centres
