South West London Law Centres volunteers win multiple awards at the Merton Partnership Volunteer Awards Celebration 2018
Volunteer solicitors from the South West London Law Centre's Merton Legal Advice Clinic were handed the Volunteer Team Award and the Outstanding Contribution Award by the Mayor of Merton, Councilor Mary Curtin, at the Merton Partnership Volunteer Awards Celebration held on June 20th, 2018.
The Merton Partnership Volunteer Awards Ceremony is held annually to celebrate the dedication of volunteer solicitors across the Merton borough. This year, the South West London Law Centre Merton volunteers were honoured to receive various awards for their efforts: The Volunteer Team Award, which recognizes our team of 5 for the difference it has made in the Merton community, and The Outstanding Contribution Award, which acknowledges the formidable contributions made by two of our solicitors, who have provided volunteer services for more than 10 years.
It is the volunteer solicitors' true dedication to providing high quality legal advice to community members who may find themselves in complicated legal situations which has earnt them such prestigious awards.
The two winners of the Outstanding Contribution Award have expressed their motivation and dedication to pro bono:
"On many occasions we would attend the centre and find that the line would extend around the corner. We were happy to provide the service knowing that these people would stand in all weather and condition to see a lawyer and it was our way of repaying the community who we felt was more vulnerable than others. We continue to have the same commitment and dedication."
And it shows! Congratulations, to the SWLLC Merton Legal Advice Team, your hard work has paid off! An additional thank you to the entire Law Centre volunteer team. They currently partake in 15 legal advice clinics like this one across 5 London boroughs, providing high quality, free legal advice to people who could not otherwise afford it.
Congratulation to SWLLC and its volunteers: we could not be prouder!
