Many people can't afford a lawyer and estimates suggest only 1 in 5 qualify for legal aid. This means many people in our communities are stuck between a rock and a hard place: unable to access justice because their income is neither high enough or low enough.
Pro bono volunteering changes this. Last year our brilliant pro bono volunteers shared their legal knowledge and skills to enable more than 4000 local people in need to access justice and uphold their rights. They helped us run up to 16 free advice clinics a week, and 7 in 10 people said they left the advice clinic feeling more in control of their situation.
Our volunteer lawyers say that giving free legal advice doesn't just benefit people in need: it benefits them professionally too. As a pro bono lawyer, you're providing advice on a wide range of legal issues, thinking on your feet, and developing vital soft skills with people from different socio-economic backgrounds to your own.
Our weekly advice clinics are always busy, with more people needing help than we have have current capacity to help. Are you a qualified solicitor with a current practising certificate who has experience in housing, consumer, litigation or contract law, we'd love you to join us! Please send your CV to firstname.lastname@example.org today, and we'll be in touch.
